How to cook Lamb Saag at home?


Lamb Saag – Indian Style Lamb Curry with spinach

Prep Time – 20 mins, Cook Time – 1:30 mins, Serves 4

If you’re looking for a winter family curry, this simple lamb dish with spinach is definitely going to be a favourite.


  • 750 gm lamb shoulder, cut into small pieces
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1 large spanish onion, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, peeled & crushed
  • Ginger 25 gms chopped
  • 2 red chillies, chopped
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 2 cardamom pods, squashed
  • 4 large tomatoes, cut in quarters
  • 200g baby spinach, roughly chopped
  • small pack coriander, roughly chopped


  • Heat oil in a large saucepan, and fry the lamb for about 2 mins
  • Add garlic, ginger, chilli and onion into the pan, stir thoroughly and cook for another 5 mins
  • Add all the other spices & tomatoes, stir thoroughly and cook for about 45 mins in low heat
  • Stir in the spinach then cook for another 15-20 mins or until the lamb is tender. If the sauce is looking thin, take the lid off for the last 20 mins of cooking to reduce it.
  • Garnish with coriander & serve with naan/rice
